Headed out on Wed. to a deep field camp....3 hours by plane from Mcmurdo...3 weeks in a mountain tent @ -40F! Taking 2 sleeping bags, 2 wool blankets, thermarest, ridgerest, every piece of warmness I have here, extra goggles, sunglasses, hats, gloves, neck gaitors, balaclavas, boots....WAIS(West Antarctic Ice Sheet) is a place where they are drilling ice core samples at the division of an ice sheet that covers the Trans Antarctic mountain range....they drill here b/c the ice layers are more lofty and 'readable' than other places where it is very compact. They can look at a certain layer and match it to a certain year and get all sorts of data and just totally beak out on it. (Scientists are known as 'Beakers')
Anyway, Halloween party last night was fun w/ lots of dancing and great costums. I was a Tiger Luchador w/ a gold mohawk! That's right.....dead sexy!
So, small world down here, I've met lots of people who know other friends around the world: I'm working at WAIS w/ Larry Gullingsrud....some of you oldschool AK folks may know him. Another girl on my crew is named Tirzah...Natcho and Liam, she met all of us one summer in Haines. Liam, another lady named Liz works in Helos here(she loves you), but don't we all.....Jota is in the house!....Megan, another co-worker is good buddys w/ alot of the SLC people, guy named 'Cruiser' that I met tonight at dinner hangs around some w/ Mike Speaks, some random dishwasher that always wears a Chilkat Guides hat that worked for Princess in Skagway, Betsy is in the gift shop...she says hello Em, and as far as I know, there is nobody here who knows you CP......................but they all say that you're Gay!
