Alrighty then, I'm back from WAIS Divide and working on some pics and a full report on that place.....but I'm horribly slow and I'll get to it sometime.....heres some candy for now. OK, while there uploading............
So, West Antarctica! Picture this: a GIANT piece of white paper......then go bigger........double that image.........then take a fine point pen and put a small dot in the middle.......this dot is about a mile square and is the perimeter of the camp at WAIS Divide! Beyond the camp, nothing but the great white flat.....for ever and ever and ever! A nasty place to get lost, and a fun place to haul ass on a snowmobile! The people that live at this field camp for the summer are in an endless conversation about weather and the amount of Baja(alcohol) they may or may not have. A perfectly organized setting for lunacy! They are a good bunch however, and they dine on nothing but the finest.....much better than the food at McMurdo! In WAIS, we sleep like little sled dogs curled in our tents....cold at first, then heating up throughout the night until morning brings oven like temperature to the inside of the tent, while the outside remains frostcovered.
