Happy New Year!
We've had some good times down here the past few weeks. Some nice town time after a stint out in the wilds. I was luckey and got to hang out @ Pole for a few days on each end of my last trip to AGAP. The band room and gym there is my favorite place to hang out. Back here in McMurdo, I've been doing lots of town work orders and getting into a routine. Up at 6:30, breakfast by 7, cereal, a banana, water, up to the shop by 7:15, coffee, morning meeting 7:30, stretching, work, 10am break for 15 minutes, work, lunch for an hour @ noon, work, 3pm break, work til 5, clean up and do timecards til 5:30, walk home, go running or work out or drink a beer before dinner, usually 6 or 6:30 dinner, home, music or tv, bed by 9 or 10.......repeat.
And somewhere in all that routine business, there is time for live music, art shows, dancing, partys, bike rides, skiing, and general debauchery.
This years MAAG art show was lots of fun and had many interesting things. A juggling/balance act, a giant seesaw, a giant Newton's Cradle, a bubble factory, live music, and a disco room. Very interactive! Icestock was a hit this year with 16 bands playing throughout the day and into the night. A love story between robots and ninjas was acted out, Sawbucks coffee was served in usual fashion, tie-dyed factory, and kiwi BBQ!
Next week it's back to work and more than half of our shop will be leaving to go back out to the deep field. I have requested some more town time as I am enjoying being able to work on various projects and learn new things. The dry valley camps will be closing pretty soon and I hope to make it back out there, and probably will have one more deep field trip before it's all over. In the meantime I dream of nice beaches full of beautiful women and deep blue waves.
Happy 2010!
